THE EIGTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TEXTBOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL MEDIA

CALL FOR PAPERS

The International Association for Research on Textbooks and Educational Media (IARTEM) in co-operation with the IUFM of Caen (Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres de Basse-Normandie) has the pleasure of inviting professionals from all over the world who work in the field of textbooks and educational media research and development to participate in the eigth IARTEM Conference.

The conference will take place in

     Caen , France , October 26 th – 29 th , 2005

The theme and topics of the conference:

   CAUGHT IN THE WEB OR LOST IN THE TEXTBOOK?

Topics:

• Changing identities in a global world

How do we include ethnic, social and gender related matters in our textbooks and educational media? What does it mean to let different voices be heard in a democratic dialogue?

• Textbooks and educational media in the learning environment

How do we understand the changes in the learning environment? What are the consequences for future production of textbooks and educational media?

• Quality, evaluation and selection of textbooks and educational media

How do we examine the role of evaluation, selection and marketing for the improvement of textbooks and educational media?

• Design of learning materials for the subject disciplines

How can textbooks and educational media be designed for different topics and school subjects? What are the challenges for the field of design?

PRACTICAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

• Deadline for suggestions of papers: January 31 st , 2005
• Deadline for abstracts (max 500 words): April 4 th , 2005
• The abstracts of the presentations will be made available before the conference
• The papers will be published in the eigth IARTEM conference volume edited by the IARTEM board
• The working language will be English. Some seminars will also be held in French.

CONFERENCE FEE:

• Members: 150 Euro
• Non members: 210 Euro
• PhD-students: 75 Euro
• A limited amount of grants: 100 Euro

All participants can give papers and will also receive the conference volume.
